Conservatory – nearly finished :)

January 24, 2010

Its amazing, we are nearly done. Its been a long haul (this job was planned and quoted for back in July), but the end is in sight at last.

The tiler (brilliant lad, Peter) has finished all the floor and grouted it up:

Im chuffed to bits with the floor, it just looks ace.

The plumber has also been this week and fitted possibly the largest radiator in the kingdom, the ambient temperature in there now is about 24 degrees :) lovely in the morning.

We still haven’t quite got the kitchen back together, hence the pots and pans everywhere :)

All the skirting boards are on and just need filling and painting, and the hole in the kitchen wall has been patched. Just need to rehang the rad now.

That wall will need a lick of paint.

More tiling

January 15, 2010

Well the tiler has been hard at work today and got most of the kitchen done, unfortunately it means that we cannot now use the kitchen floor until tomorrow as the tiles cannot be walked on, however I have cunningly provided us with a floor bridge to cover the gap.

Its a little wobbly, but does the job OK.

The poor bloke even moved the fridge on his own.

All the pipework from yesterday has also been filled in and ready to be tiled over too.

Conservatory – tiling

January 14, 2010

Well, Christmas and the New Year is over and this week there has suddenly been a rash of progress on the build.

To start with the walls and window sills have been painted with their base coats, look better already:

You will also have noticed that the floor has gone down too!

The plumber has also been round and made a lot of holes and trenches and laid some pipes for the heating:

We have also decided at the same time to have all the rads fitted with thermostats as he has to drain the system min any case to put the heating system in, at a bargain price of 15 quid per stat!!

Hopefully by this time next week all will be completed.

Conservatory – Where are we at?

December 20, 2009

Right then – all work has now stopped on the conservatory due to the Christmas break and unfortunately its not quite finished and so it wont be done for Christmas Day. But we have decided that we are going to use it in any case.

Since my last post the following bits HAVE been done.

All the internal walls have been plastered.

The sparks have done the final fix and finished the fitting the electric although this isn’t live yet. The guy is coming tomorrow in his free time to make the circuit live so at least we will have heat and light for Christmas. The new light came in the week and Im hoping that it can be fitted tomorrow as well, as it weighs a ton and Im not entirely sure I can do it on my own.

Martin has finished all the glazing work and cleaned up and so his work is now complete bar the skirting boards. I have now paid for him in full.

The aircon has been fitted, but needs wiring up – again this might be tomorrow.

Wilf came round today and sanded back all the window sills and undercoated and satin wooded them, they look really good.

He has also slapped a thin coat of emulsion on the walls, but they are still very wet from the plaster, and will need a couple more coats.

As we dont have a floor down yet, and wont until the NY, Wilf has also donated a big old run to go on the conservatory floor, to make it look a little better.

So, what needs to be done?

  1. Plumber needs to channel the floor for the radiator and fit it.
  2. Floor will then need filling in.
  3. Tiles need to be laid in all three rooms
  4. Need to buy some furniture to go in it!

Conservatory – more done!

December 13, 2009

Good afternoon all, welcome to the latest of my conservatory build.

OK – this week:

  • The electricians have been in and done the main electric ring “first fix”. This means that all the cables are in and channelled though and all the back boxes are in, ready for it to go live and have the faceplates fitted.
  • The builders have been back and all the internal walls have been prepped ready for plaster that apparently is happening on Monday.
  • The outside has been finished and is all nicely rendered.
  • All that then left to do will be the radiator, the aircon unit and the floor.
  • Then a splash of paint and its done other than furnishing.

Heres the latest piccies:
